Community Awareness and Education

In order to better educate the Rowan County community about domestic violence and sexual assault, the Family Crisis Council offers a variety of FREE presentations to community schools, faith-based communities, businesses, and groups.

Topics can also be tailored to meet the specific needs of your organization.

Contact Linda Coplin, Outreach Coordinator to request a presentation for your community group, school, faith community, organization or business OR to request literature to display at your office or agency.

Services Provided by the Family Crisis Council:

      

        24-Hour Crisis Line - crisis intervention and counseling by trained representatives is available on 24 hour a day.

Emergency Shelter - temporary shelter is available for victims of domestic violence and their children for approximately 30 days.

Counseling Services - counseling services are available for individuals and families who are victims.

Rape and Sexual Assault Program - Assistance is available to victims of rape or sexual assault through the medical center, police and court procedures. Support Groups are available to adult females who were victims of assault or incest.

Support Groups - Support Groups women and children are available for victims or witnesses of domestic violence or sexual assault.

Referral Services - Referrals to resources within the community and state are available through the Family Crisis Council office upon request.

Preventive Programs/Public Awareness - Programs are available to the public through educational classes, workshops, and community presentations. Prevention programs are provided to schools, businesses, and other organizations to the topics of family violence, rape, incest, and sexual abuse.

HERO Support Group - Help Encouragement and Recognition of Child observers of domestic violence is a small group curriculum that provides direct services to children who have been identified as living in violent homes.

Court Advocacy - a trained advocate will attend court with victims and ensures that they understand their rights both in court and in the community. This is done through moral support, referrals, assistance with legal aid and protection orders.
